Optiphen Plus is liquid preservative  which offers broad spectrum preservation without parabens or formaldehyde. This preservative functions particularly well in slightly acidic formulations, and is globally approved. Consisting of Phenoxyethanol (an ether alcohol), Sorbic Acid (a natural acid that offers protection from yeast, fungus and mold) and Caprylyl Glycol (an emollient base).  Optiphen PLUS as a preservative offers the following benefits::

  • Its a globally Approved preservative
  • Contains a reliable agent, sorbic acid, for anti-fungal and anti-mold activity
    • unlike Optiphen ND which contains benzoic acid which may be de-activated by non-ionic emulsifiers and surfactants
    • unlike regular Optiphen which contains no acid and no protection from mold, fungus or yeast
  • Its a highly effective broad spectrum antimicrobial agent
  • Its highly effective at pH levels below 6
  • Non-formaldehyde donor

    GUIDELINES

    • 0.75 to 1.5%
    • add to water phase or cool down (preferred method)
    • best in formulations with final pH below 6.0
    • may solidify at temperatures below 20 Celsius, if this occurs gently heat and stir to ensure homogeneity
    • NOTE: Every personal care formulation requires a preservative that meets its specific needs.  New, and modified, formulations should be challenge tested to ensure adequate preservation.

Our Optiphenâ„¢ Plus preservative is free of paraben, formaldehyde, or halogens. It provides broad-spectrum protection against bacteria, yeast, fungi, and mold. It offers excellent heat stability, works across a wide pH window, and has easy solubilization in water.

Optiphen plus is a unique liquid preservative formulation featuring an innovative blend of phenoxyethanol and sorbic acid in an emollient base of caprylyl glycol. It is ideal for slightly acidic personal care products requiring broad spectrum protection. The combination of all three ingredients offers effective protection against bacteria, yeast, and mold growth while imparting emolliency.

Optiphenâ„¢ Plus preservative is ideal for slightly acidic personal care products. It performs best in formulations below 6.0 pH but is also proven effective at pH levels above 6.0. In formulations with low emulsifier concentration, intensive stirring is advised.

Recommended Usage: 0.75 – 1.5% For the preservation of simple surfactant products a dose of 0.5% might be sufficient.

Compatibility: Compatible with all classes of Preservatives.

Application: lotion, cream, shampoo, Use in conditioners, gels, mousses, novel stylers, shampoos, styling lotions/creams), body care, color cosmetics, face and body washes, facial care, wipes, in skincare, haircare, rinse-off, and leave-on applications

Packaging: Our water/Oil based ingredients are bottled in plastics avoid spillage.

Recommended Storage: Store in cool temperatures away from direct sunlight and moisture in an airtight container.
